Experience

More than 25 years of dedicated engineering success

Pratt & Whitney Flight Test Manager, Toulouse, France
March 2019 - present

Skills: Project Management, Flight Test Operations, Global Team Management

My mission: Lead a test flight team of up to 12 engineers and technicians that test, inspect and maintain a fleet of experimental engines to support a company-critical certification program, leading to new operational engines for global client aircraft.

My work: I ensure that the customer (one of the largest global aerospace companies) receives the test engines in optimal condition, and then verify that the team accurately installs any needed instrumentation and upgrades. During the test flight operations, I guide the team in critical routine tasks: the preparation of the engines for upcoming tests; the timely collection and evaluation of flight data; the accurate inspection and maintenance of the engines; and the necessary archiving of flight records. Our team will rapidly respond to engine faults or part failures to keep the aircraft flying and on track to meet the airframer’s aggressive certification schedule. To ensure clear communication, I collaborate with the customer’s flight test center and design office, and our engineering, program, and delivery centers so we can solve snags, create plans, fix issues, and create strategies and pathways to success.

The results: Achieved airframer’s certification schedule without delaying the engine schedule certification deadline. Maintained engine support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, for which I received an award for effective and continuous program operation in 2020. Developed and launched a SharePoint database tool across both the on-site and in-house teams that supports and archives all flight test operations. Standardized our operational processes for our “concept of operations”. Hired new staff, trained them to follow our operational procedures, and reviewed their performance.

Pratt & Whitney Senior Supply Chain Manager, San Francisco, Calif.
2011-2019

Skills: Vendor Management, Fleet Modeling, and Operational Efficiency Improvements

My mission: Execute a $1.5 billion spare part contract for a major US airline. Collaborate with the airline’s maintenance shop and create repair plans for the airline’s 300+ fleet of engines.

My work: : I built complex models to find the cost-effectiveness of the engine repair work, and to guide our future planning. Our vendors (who repaired the engine parts) and I collaborated to reduce the price of replacement parts. And for our warehouse, I developed new processes to reduce inventory, eliminate waste and speed up production.

The results: Increased purchases of lower-priced, previously run parts and reduced program cost by 10% over previous years. Introduced a simple but robust ‘visual dashboard’ that helped to reduce warehouse inventory by 15% and shorten average kitting times from 20 to 15 days. Ran several kaizen events with suppliers and identified cost-saving ideas.

Pratt & Whitney Senior Customer Support Engineer, San Francisco, Calif.
2008-2011

Operated as the liaison between the engineering, maintenance, and program management departments of a major airline, and the Pratt & Whitney engineering, commercial spares, and engine program groups. Investigated engine failures, assisted customer engineering department to troubleshoot engine operation and part repairs. Trained mechanics how to perform on-wing engine repairs and inspections.

Pratt & Whitney Senior Test Engineer, Various International Locations
2003-3008

Led a team of technicians, mechanics, and engineers from P&W and partner companies in the planning, assembly, instrumentation and test of jet engines. Tested engines worldwide at ground test cells and on flight-test aircraft, to meet FAA certification requirements.

Directed engineers and mechanics in the instrumentation, maintenance and repair of the engines on flight-test aircraft. Lead engineer for 12-month flight test campaign conducted in France (lived in the Crown Plaza Hotel at Place du Capitole in Toulouse for a year!), Chad, Bolivia, Spain and Canada.

Led production and quality team for 12-month production start-up in Hanover, Germany

Pratt & Whitney Project Engineer & Team Leader, East Hartford, Conn.
1999-2003

Led team of designers, drafters and suppliers to develop and certify engine hardware. Set budgets and tracked performance of vendors and suppliers on a $15 million/year program.
